Ahh Compo...

I took these shots of the clouds at sunset last week at Compo Beach and I noticed that all three pics were taken in the same minute just by turning around and facing another direction.  I love Compo.

Boating On The Sound

Today was my first day on the Sound all summer. You would think going to the beach, gazing at the blue water and feeling the coolness between your toes would be a similar sensation, but for some reason being out on a boat, on the water is a whole other world and it's tremendous.

Local Artist

Elizabeth Juliver is an artist. Her work is modern and thought provoking. I photographed her most recent collection the other day. Here are a few of my favorite pieces.



Poppies
Elizabeth used newspaper articles from May 2, 2011, the day Osama Bin Laden was killed for this piece. It symbolizes nature rising above the destruction of man.

Twisted Moon

Elizabeth manipulated folded newspaper to create movement through the painting as if floating through the night sky.

Orange Rise

A knife was dragged through many layers of paint in this piece to obtain the dramatic sensations of the African landscape.

Stripped

The signature piece of the collection. Elizabeth used empowering newspaper headlines and phrases with a double image of a woman floating above. You are meant to feel the stripping and freeing of herself through these words.

Bar Mitzvah Boy

I shot a bar mitzvah last weekend and there were some beautiful moments and great photos but one photograph stood out from the rest.  It was during the service while the bar mitzvah and the rabbi were reading a prayer among the Torah. It was a quiet moment but it must have caught the interest of a young guest because as we were all engrossed in the moment, a little boy in a red bow tie walked on stage to check out what was going on. The photo (to me) can either be be taken as of a boy looking at his future or an impish child planning his next move.

Happy 1st Birthday Baby Alice!

The first year in a child's life always amazes me. The biggest changes occur during those precious twelve months making the first birthday wondrous but also bittersweet. I love you Baby Alice.

Tug Of War

Looking for things to do next time you have some friends over? My advice, Tug of War! We started with kids vs. kids, then the moms took on the daughters and when the adults started competing against one another, we couldn't get them to quit!

And no one wanted their team to lose!

Olympic Fever

Someone told me to never put other people's pics on your photography blog but...

Compo Clouds

Happy Birthday To Me

Not my best pic but it's certainly my best gift ever. It's from my birthday last year; a  peanut butter sandwich wrapped in Christmas paper made my then four year old niece Soleil.

By the way, after I unwrapped it, Soleil ate it!

My New Buddy

Just a sweet little redhead to start your week off right. His parents are dear friends of mine and though I don't see them often enough, their little guy told me I could take home any lawnmower I wanted from his garage. I was hoping for the snowblower.

The Dog Days Of Summer

While driving to Compo I had to stop and take a picture when I saw this dog sleeping in the heat on his porch.

Unfortunately I woke him up but it did make me notice, the beautiful dog had two different color eyes!

Back On The High Line Again

I was too busy to visit The High Line in Manhattan this spring with the dozens of tulips and seasonal blooms but not to fear, summer is just so lush and inviting. If you still haven't gone for a stroll up there, go now. My next visit will be at sunset because it's open until 11:00pm every night!
