Bah Bah Westport Sheep

I've posted on this blog before about Westport's affinity for animals. There's the obvious dogs and cats, hamsters and turtles. A few people have horses and chickens seemed be to the rage a couple of years ago. Well now take a look at this, our friends (not farmers) got babydoll sheep! They are sometimes called miniature sheep and they are the sweetest things. They really do follow you around just like in
 Mary Had A Little Lamb and of course they are as gentle as a lamb.
The one in the picture above is actually smiling!

Rainbow

There was a rainbow in Westport today. I caught it just as it was starting to dim.
My son is colorblind so all he could see was a yellow light and a bit of blue on one side. 

How sad is it to go through life never seeing a rainbow? 

There could be worse things of course, but still...

3rd of July

Westport celebrated the Fourth of July this year on the 3rd of July with its annual fireworks display at Compo Beach. I was lucky enough to avoid the crowds and watched the show from a friend's boat on the Sound.

First Sunset Of The Summer

Mill Cove

I walked through Mill Cove today by Old Mill Beach in Westport. Every time I walk around the quaint little area with fabulous views from all sides, I think I would like to live there. Then of course I remember the "no cars allowed" rule on the teeny inlet. The thought of lugging my stuff from Stop and Shop in rain and snow brings me right back to reality.
Early spring is probably not the best time to take pictures. Most of the houses are summer residences and haven't been spruced up yet, the gardens haven't been tended to all winter and of course Hurricane Sandy did quite a number to the area. But I wanted to see how the beautiful homes old and new fared from the super storm and how they were preparing for the next one. Here's what I found.

The sand still seems to be piled up but the pathway is all clear. 

 I don't know what happened here, but from the looks of the construction, 

they won't let it happen again!

 I started to walk under this house but got scared and ran out.

This one looks almost ready for summer!

I hope the neighbors house (on the left) wasn't knocked down completely by the storm.

The views here of the Long Island Sound are still gorgeous even at low tide.

Wild About Weather

The Town of Westport has many eclectic and discriminating characteristics that make it stand out. We have Compo Beach, The Minute Man Statue (which I love Lucy replicated in a famous episode), the Westport Country Playhouse, Dan Woog and Coffee An' just to name a few. There is another one which seems to be growing in popularity with every new impending storm, it's Westport's own Scott Pecoriello and his Wild About Weather blog. It has over 4,000 followers on Facebook and after the Staples newspaper article comes out about Scott, it's Watch Out Al Roker!
Scott has been a weather fanatic since he was two years old and is probably the nicest guy in Westport.  Reading Scott's forcasts and commentary will get you as excited about the weather as Scott is. Like his page and you'll never be caught in the rain again!

Almost Not A Snow Day

The message this morrning at 5:45am was all Westport schools will be running on a 2hr delay due to snow conditions. Then I put on the local news and the newscasters were making fun of Westport saying "It looks like the kids in Westport will be the only ones in Southern CT going to school today". Almost an hour later after everyone is up and getting dressed, we get the call that the Westport schools will now not open. Too late to go back to bed. So I took one snow pic on the way to Coffee An' with the kids for breakfast and donuts.
